Fight for Independence!

Just the Monday that passed, I tried to pull up my own underpants. With Mama's help, I did it! Yeah!

The next day, when we were at home, Mama wanted to follow me to the bathroom as I wanted to pee but I pushed her away. Mama felt really proud as she peeped at me from outside her bedroom. She saw me took the Ikea stool, placed it before the toilet bowl and stood on the stool. I then peed into the toilet bowl and tried to wash my own hands. Then I got Mama to help me with something that she can't remember but really, I am growing up. I am a big boy now! :D

37 Months Old!

Dear all,
I am 37 months old! This picture above was taken on my 37th month birthday and we were in Bintan for a holiday. I am an animal lover and I am interested in dogs, birds and frogs. This frog that was on the window sill when we were having breakfast at the resort cafeteria thrilled me somewhat.

See, I even attempted to touch it though I did not make any real contact because of the glass!

When we walk past our neighbour's place at the ground level, I like to count the number of bird cages that hung from the ceiling because I can see the birds in them. I also like to count the mynahs I see when I am out and about.

With all these counting, I probably became a much better negotiator. Once, Mama was singing Great is Thy Faithfulness to me at bedtime when I asked her to sing it a few more times. She said she will sing 1 more stanza and then I asked for 4 more stanza and then 10 stanzas. Though Mama was impressed and amused, she certainly did not oblige me.

I love water activities too and this month, I had more opportunities for water play when Mama brought me to the zoo at the beginning of the month and more opportunities when we went Bintan. Here are some lovely pictures, or at least Mama thinks they are lovely. :D

This month, I had learnt that I can lower my pitch when I speak and I enjoy doing it when Mama reads the Spot books with me. Spot is a little puppy and we have quite a few books on Spot. The stories are simple with only 1 or 2 sentences each page and almost every book is a lift the flap book. There was this page when Spot's Mama asked him where is Papa and I will lift a flap in the book, lower my pitch in imitation of Spot's Papa saying, "Here I am." I got this idea because Mama also lowered her pitch when she read "Here I am"

Talking about Spot books, there are some Spot books which I kind of memorised. Not by sheer recitation but because Mama read the books so often that I can remember the details and read responsively with Mama. So it seems like I can read as I can lift a flap and read the words under it but it's more because I had remembered what Mama had read when each flap was lifted.

Also, I not only read with lowered pitch but with tone as well. There was a page when Spot tugged at someone's towel and the owner of the towel said,"Let go!" I will lift the flap and said "Let go!" in a way that seemed to convey some irritation felt by the owner by raising my pitch.

Ok, Mama is not exactly sure if she used the words "pitch" and "tone" correctly but you get the idea. ;)

This month, I had also become more dependent on my tutu, often asking for it even when I am not sleepy. Mama thinks it's like some kind of regression as I had long been using it only during nap times and night times but I now ask for it when there is nothing else that interests me. That explains why many pictures taken the last 2 months or so features me with my best friend. ;p

Papa is now more conscious of helping me kick off this bad habit of using the tutu and tries to insist it's only for sleep times while Mama had become more like Papa whom in the past, preferred to give me the tutu to keep me from making too much noise. Still, Papa is the one who remembers to take tutu out with us by hiding it in my bag, out of my sight, as Mama often forgets to bring it.

At 37 months, I like to climb. See me try scaling new heights!

Last month, I also had my first sleepover at Nai Nai's place. No pictures for this as Mama was out with Papa for evening class but it was a good break for Mama and Papa. Aside from my hospitalisation for jaundice treatment when I was 4-6 days old, I had always been with my parents whenever I sleep. This is a first for me! Mama was kind of prepared that if I am awake at 11.30pm, she will pick me up from Nai Nai's place as she does not want to wake up in the middle of the night to bring me home. But at around 10.45pm, Shu shu messaged Mama to say I had fallen asleep. Hurray! A note worthy point is that I usually ask for Mama if Papa tries to put me to bed but that evening at Nai Nai's house, I did not ask for Mama. Maybe it's because I understood that Mama would not be coming for me as she had explained to me the day before.

Mama also had a few issues with me at 37 months old. Mama had noticed that I have butter fingers and tend to drop whatever I am holding easily. I can be seated at a bus stop with an Ez-link card in my hand and the next moment, I had dropped the card on the ground.

I also choked over my saliva a little more often though the last 2 weeks though things had been much better the past few days. You know, I am still drooling when my tutu is in my mouth even though all my 20 teeth are fully grown. The norm is that once I had finished teething, I should have stopped drooling.

This month, I tend to get bitten by some unknown bugs and it's now part of my bedtime routine to ask Mama to help me apply Mopiko to my legs or bum.

On a more postive note, as I become older, I like to take up responsibility. Last Sunday, as my parents did their final round of packing to Bintan, I insisted on bringing my float. So they told me it's my responsibility to take the float with me wherever I go and truly, I held on to it on our way there most of the time except when our bags were placed in Papa's car or on the luggage shelf in the ferry. See, I even had it with me when I was checking out the vending machine at Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal and nope, I didn't drop it.

I'm really a big boy now!

Ok, it's bed time. Thanks for reading this far. Mama will update again! :D

Sing Great is Thy Faithfulness

Mama has long wanted to take a video of me singing Great is Thy Faithfulness which is the song I ask her to sing before I sleep each night. I will often sing along with her but those were no occasions to take out her handphone. She finally got a chance.

We met a dog and Mama told me the dog is resting and I should pat it gently. Without any prompting, I started singing Great is Thy Faithfulness to Mama's surprise. By the time she took out her handphone, I was almost done with singing. See how much of the song you can catch in the video below. You have to listen very hard and use some imagination though. ;p

My Quest for Height

The day before, Mama brought me to my 4th granduncle's warehouse to visit my da yi po who went to the hospital for a check up recently. As there was nothing much in the factory for me to play with, Mama allowed me to climb up the ladder that was placed near the row of metallic shelves for fun. Out of precaution, she only allowed me to climb up the highest rung of the ladder but my third grand uncle brought me a step further by helping me mount the wooden plank that rest on the top of the shelves.

3rd grand uncle tried to help me down but in the end, he decided to climb up the ladder to bring me around the plane.

Mama took the pictures above and below with her handphone camera in a zoom-in mode and she was standing on one of the rungs of the ladder.

This is probably the highest I had gone and I had so much fun. Can you tell from the pictures how high above the ground granduncle and I really are? :)

An Ice Cream Cone

Last Friday, after dinner, Papa brought me and Mama to Yew Tee Point to run some errand and eat ice cream. I chose to have the green apple flavoured ice cream cone. Mama kept asking me to hold the cone tight as I have butter fingers and tend to drop whatever is in my hands if I am distracted.

Mama is quite glad I am willing to eat ice cream as she thought there was something wrong with me that causes me not to be very keen with ice cream. Actually, it's the cone that I prefer to eat. The ice-cream, well, it's part of the deal.

Papa noted that the way I eat my ice cream takes after Mama as I licked it gingerly.

We went home soon after I finished the ice cream cone. Will we have ice cream again tonight? ;)

So High Ah!

hi all,
See, I have climbed so high up the railing! I probably learnt this by observing the older boys when I was much younger. When I was younger, Mama used to be afraid I may fall down when I climb this high but now, she is not worried anymore. I am a big boy now! :D

E7

Nowadays when Mama fetches me after school, I will make a beeline for E7 and ask Mama for "E7". E7 is the serial number I need to press to get the gummy sweets in the vending machine just outside my school. I really love to hang out by the machine each time I am outside the classroom. Many a times, Mama actually gave me a smaller packet of the gummy sweets in order to get me to go home with her. So you can imagine I am eating lots of sweets... ;p

Na Na Song

When Aunty Cheyanne and Uncle Denton came back from US last year, they tried to share this song with me on Youtube. I was not interested in this song then. But this year, I heard this song quite often in church school and now, I can sing it. Sometimes, I even tried to do the footwork that accompanies the song in church school but I only know how to stamp my feet. For your listening pleasure. :D

Talk More, Walk Less

My Mama used to be worried that I have a problem of delayed speech as I was still not using 2-word phrases by 27 months. Now at 36 months, I had picked up many words and during my last well-baby check up at the polyclinic a few weeks ago, the nurse who assessed me said I am doing fine in my language (speech) development.

At the age of around 36 months, I just really say some really cute stuff and Mama wants to record them before she forgets.

For example, we were getting ready to leave for Nai nai's place at around 5pm last evening and the sky was a little overcast as it just rained. When I came to the living room which was not well-lit, I said, "Ooh, so dark." Mama commented that I will use the adverb of "so" in my comment while Papa was amused that I said "ooh" before my comment.

Nowadays, after yawning, I would kind of sigh and say, "So tired." Sometimes, when I was about to fall asleep, I will also say "Daniel is tired"

I had probably outgrown the phase of imitating Mama saying, "Sorry, too bad." as I hardly say this anymore.

At 3 years old, Mama often like to say I am a big boy now and hence have to behave in some ways eg walk on my own, cannot eat my tutu so much, etc. Perhaps this is why I often say I am a "small boy" when Mama asks if I am a big boy or small boy.

This morning, I was at Nai nai's place and she asked if I would like to go to school. I replied,"I don't think so." This was another phrase I probably picked up from Mama though she can't remember when she said that to me. Then again, Mama can't be sure if I really know what I was saying when I say "I don't think so".

It is perhaps with this development or some other kind of ongoing growth that I had become more clingy to Mama. When Mama brings me to school, I will ask for her to carry me whenever we reach the lift lobby at the ground level. Sometimes, Mama will refuse but she usually will agree as we are always rushing to reach school on time and that's the fastest way to travel with me.

When Mama is carrying me, I will sometimes ask to be let down if I see something that is of interest to me and I would like to check it out. This makes Mama think I like to be carried because I am bored with walking and there is nothing to interest me.

Also, when Mama carries me, I can see everything at her eye level rather than see only the bags and bums of others around me when I walk on my own.

Hence, it is so much better to be carried than to walk around, don't you think so? :)
