Malacca Trip Episode #3

After lunch, we went for a walk nearby. Mama loves this picture below of me and Papa taking a walk together at the corridor.

Nai nai went to a shop that sold shoes and school bags. While waiting for her, we eventually ended up outside a provision store that sold lots of stuff, including tissue paper which Mama needed very much as she was having a running nose and she had not brought any tissue paper along for the trip.

There were 2 kiddy ride machines and Papa placed me in one of them.

Mama told Papa that I am no longer afraid when I ride on moving kiddy ride machines and so Papa put a 50-cent coin into the machine. Boy, you should see the way it moved!

After the ride, Papa allowed me to drink chilled bottled water as the weather was very hot.

Malacca Trip Episode #2

After I woke up, we went to the chicken rice stall near our hotel for lunch.

This restaurant serves chicken rice in the shape of balls. At Nai nai's suggestion, I had the opportunity to sink my teeth into the rice balls.
Yum!

Papa and Mama took turns to feed me and I also tried to feed myself. After a while, I simply took the braised egg with my hands and fed myself. It's faster this way as I do not have to wait for Mama to cut my food into bite-sized pieces. Another of my attempts at independence. :)

"Yes" and "Egg"

Today, on our way back home from Malacca, Mama asked if I would like to eat some corn bun after I woke up from the nap and I say "Yes". Papa was driving and he commented I seemed to have uttered the word "yes" and Mama thought she heard the same too. Mama asked me again and I answered her with the same word. Yes, I can say "yes" now!

After we settled back at home, we were watching Happy Feet on Channel 5 when there were some scenes of an egg. And I said "egg" twice. Yup, slowly, I am beginning to talk... :)

Malacca Trip Episode #1

Dear all, yesterday, we went to Melaka with Ye ye, Nai nai and Shu shu. Papa, Mama and I were in Papa's car while Ye Ye, Nai nai and Shu Shu were in Shu shu's car car.

When Mama was preparing for the trip, she decided to entertain me with lots of activities like watching my VCDs and DVDs, reading to me, giving me Gardenia Corn Bun for breakfast and packet of milk and cornflakes for snacks. She thought we will spend a lot of time watching the discs but the battery of the disc player was not fully charged and I only watched 1 VCD when Mama brought at least 3 discs for my entertainment. Oh well, there are other things we can do like those listed earlier.

Papa and Mama even experimented with strapping me to the car seat but eventually decided we will go without one as I can't be confined to the car seat for long. So here's another picture of Mama trying to entertain me. haha. :)

We left our place at around 7am in the morning and reached Malacca at about 11am. It seemed like a long drive but we took quite a few breaks. The longest one was when we had breakfast along the way at one of the rest stops. There was a playground there and of course, I have to spend some time at the playground.

I fell asleep when we were almost reaching the hotel and thank God we could have an early check-in even though the hotel was fully occupied for the weekend. This is Papa opening the door to our room. Mama took this picture as I was asleep in the pram.

Ye ye, Nai nai and Shu shu were staying in the room just next to ours and there were 2 doors that joined our room. It was fun to be able to go through the doors and be able to see my folks. I spent almost half of my awake time in Ye ye's room.

When I woke up after about an hour of nap, I wasted no time in checking out the cupboards. Boy, I could even hide in the cupboard.

I Walked Backwards Again

Here's a video that Mama suddenly thought of taking while watching me play. She thought she may just catch me walking backwards and I certainly didn't disappoint her. whoa.... :P

Going Malacca

Dear all, in another 7 hours' time, my parents, my paternal grandparents and my shu shu will be heading for Malacca. It's the first time we take a trip together as a family and it's the first time I am taking a road trip. Come back next week for some more updates, yah? :)

Itchy Itchy, Scratchy Scratchy

See the small red bumps on my forehead? They are mosquito bites (or maybe unknown-insect bites). No worries, they are not itchy. The itchy ones are found on my hands. See the red bump near my right sleeve?

Nowadays, if I feel itchy, other than scratching myself, I will hold Mama's hand and put it at the are where the itch is and Mama will try to scratch it without breaking my skin. Clever of me to get a helper right? :)

I Walked Backwards

I started showing Mama that I can walk backwards today! We were at the playground just below my house when I showed her I can walk backwards along a sloping metal platform. Mama does not know if someone has taught me this or it's part of my natural development and I have reached another milestone. She thinks the latter is more likely. Yeah!

Little Drummer Boy

Once, Mama passed by a shop where she saw a small drum and thought of getting it for me. But she dismissed the idea and was about to walk away when she saw a boy who was about 3 years old indicate to his mother that he wants the drum and his mum agreed. That was the last drum in the shop.

Since then, Mama kind of kept an occasional lookout for a drum and when we visited her cousin at Holland Drive, Mama saw a small drum. With Papa's permission, she bought it for me and so here I am, a little drummer boy!

You know, I actually stood still and let Mama take this picture below for me. But she had to tell me to stand still for a few times before I eventually did because I kept wanting to see what my pictures would be like. :)

Giggling Very Hard

Here is me at the playground before we went for our dinner on the eve of Chinese New Year Eve. I saw this boy with some funny antics and I really laughed very hard! :)

I am a Drinker!

My parents do not know is it the experience of drinking with a straw or the taste of the beverage. I just love drinking! I can finish this 180ml of milk in 1 drinking. At 23 months, I already know how to remove the straw from its plastic packaging. I just need some help with putting the straw in the tetrapak.

I am also squezzing the pack less often. When Mama started letting me drink from a tetrapak, I once squeezed the pack and had apple juice all over the table in a Mac Donald restaurant. Mama didn't know if she should be angry or she should laugh at this silly mess I made.

Also, there was once when Nai Nai gave me a straw and a bottle of Vitagen, a milk cultured drink and asked me to pass it to Papa. In the end, I put the straw through the foil cap of the bottle and finished the whole bottle of Vitagen on my own. Nai nai said she did not know I can be that fast. Haha!

Oh, oh, there were also at least 2 occasions when I picked up the empty Vitagen bottle from Nai Nai's dustbin and tried to drink from the straws. The last time I did it, Mama smacked me. Hopefull, I won't do it again. Cheers! :)

Another Try At Music Making

Hi all, here I am, making music again. Do you think I do have a flair for it? :)

I Didn't Whine in School

This morning, Mama brought me to school and reminded me again that I will be there with Teacher Yati and her assistant Aunty Ivy and my friends. I didn't cry when it was time to enter the class. In fact, I walked towards and into the classroom on my own. I had settled down in school. Yeah! :)

My Pillow and My Bolster

At 23 months old, I already have my own toddler-sized pillow and bolster. When I was younger, I used to sleep without a pillow. Mama bought me a toddler's pillow some time ago but i did not really take to it and will soon roll off it whenever Mama puts my head on this pillow. Mama thought I will never use a pillow until I am much older.

But just now, while waiting for Mama to make my naptime milk, I actually took my bolster and pillow from my bed to the living room. Sometimes, I will wake up in the middle of the night and discover I am all alone in my room. I will then take my pillow and bolster to my parents' room where they are sleeping.

Once, Mama was sunning my pillow (or was it my bolster?) in the living room where there were some direct sunlight. After leaving the piece under the sun, she went to the toilet and when she came out, she discovered it was gone! I had actually returned it to my bed, not knowing that Mama intended to sun it. ;p

Watching DVD

Last week, Mama bought me my first Sesame Street DVD. It's titled Head, Shoulders, Fur and Toe. She meant to buy me a VCD which is cheaper but the shop we went to only has DVD and so she decided to get me a DVD. I am slowly taking well to this new disc but here' s something that was kind of cute.

The afternoon after we came back from the shop, Mama settled me down and I took a nap. Mama was cooking in the kitchen when she heard some sound from the living room. She knew I had woken up and thought might as well let me stay awake rather than try put me back to sleep. You see, she wants me to sleep early at night and so if I wake up from my nap earlier, I am more likely to sleep early at night.

Anyway, she decided to leave me alone until I fuss for her attention. When she came to check on me, this is what she saw. I had actually came out of my room, took the DVD down from the table, opened its casing and placed it near me. When she checked on me a second time, I had fallen asleep! See the black casing about a cm above my head in the picture? So you can say I fell asleep literally watching the DVD. Ha!

Here's another pic below but this one was "doctored" by Mama because her handphone camera could not capture a good shot of me and the DVD and so she brought the DVD closer to me for a shot. :)

I Love Music-Making

At the age of 23 months, I still love music-making. In fact, whenever Mama plays the Sesame Street VCD on making music, I will look for my shakers and try to play along with the video. :)

Even the door stoppers can be used for music making!

Papa said since I like music so much, I should be sent for music class when I am older. Oh, before Mama forgets, there was once when I actually took Papa's United Methodist Hymnal from the bookshelf in the study, placed it on the piano bench before climbing up the bench. Then I opened the hymnal. Is there a further need to say who I was imitating? ;)

My Favourite Game

Have it been mentioned that my favorite game is a modification of Hide and Seek? This is a game only Mama plays with me but I tell you, it thrills me to bits! Here's how the game goes. Mama will hide herself somewhere, say, behind the door of my room (and yes, she still does it even when I am looking at her and I know full well that she is behind). I will wait to see what happens and an index finger will stick out from the side of the door, curling and uncurling itself with a "sup sup" sound.

I will then walk towards the door to look for my Mama and when I come close enough, she will spring out and say some funny sound like "cheez!" or "niel!" with her index fingers trying to poke/tickle me.

I always giggle very hard when Mama appears in front of me and try to poke me. And we can play this almost anywhere, even at Nai nai's house. Last week we played it with me at one side of Aunty Cheyanne's cupboard and Mama at the other side. It's my favourite game!

Holding Hands Again

Guess whose hands are these?

I was having my breakfast at the void-deck before class when Ying Xuan, my classmate, came to sit next to me. There was an empty seat between me and Qiaowen's mother. (Qiaowen is another classmate of mine.) When Ying Xuan came along, she just came and sat between me and Aunty.

Mama tried to take a picture of us holding our hands but she did not succeed. This is probably the best that she can take. :)

I said Uh Uh Uh

Dear all, Mama is happy to blog that when she was about the leave me with Teacher Yati today, I only said 3 sounds and I didn't cry or whine anymore. Hurray! Sometimes, when Mama brought me for class at 9am and not earlier, she could either hear me cry or whine when she turns to leave and close the door behind her. Yes, I can be so loud that my crying or whining can be heard through the door but not today! I am grown up already, you know! May it be so tomorrow and on Friday too! :)

I Waved Bye bye

This morning, before Papa went to work, I waved to him. This new action really made him excited because I was waving to him by moving my hands left and right and not just curl and uncurl my fingers repeatedly as I usually do when I bid farewell. I can wave! :)

23 months old

Hi all, I am 23 months old already! On my 23rd month birthday, a granny at the playground asked Mama how old I was and she replied," 22 months". She actually forgot I turned 23 months that day. Tsk tsk. She reasoned that it's because she is with me every day and it really did not make too much of a difference. ;p

For the past 2 weeks, I had started pointing to many things. Mama noted this because I was supposed to have done this long ago but it was not so until recently. Also, I am starting to scream a lot for the past few days. I am also saying more syllabus like "yee" and making sounds that seems like I am saying "teng yi xia" which means to wait/hang on for a while. Maybe I am really starting to learn to talk!

I can also say haha whenever I want to. Maybe when someone says it on tv or when I feel like it but I really am saying a lot of hahas nowadays. Nope, I am not laughing but just saying the syallabi "haha".

Also, my favourite book this season is titled The Walls of Jericho. Papa bought this lift the flap board book from a secondhand book shop and I had 2 copies of it because he actually bought me the same book on 2 different occasions.

I will actually bring this to Mama and when she tries to read this for me, I will turn the pages quickly. I also like to lift the flaps and fold them. In fact, one of this lift a flap books has almost become a "pop-up" book because of me folding the flaps into two.

I am also able to recognise and point to Papa when I see his picture. Yesterday, after I woke up from my nap, I saw Papa's face on the Facebook webpage and I said," Papa, Papa" and when Mama asked me where is Papa, I pointed to Papa's face. Mama then started a video chat with Papa who was in his office at that time and she showed Papa how I can now recognise him on screen and point to him.

I still dislike going to school. In fact, I will always cry when Mama leaves me in the classroom to go marketing or back home to tutor our neighbour. But now, I am always very happy to see Mama pick me up after school.

I am a "moody" eater. Sometimes, I will enjoy minced pork that are bite-sized and at times, spit them out.

Because of the Chinese New Year last week, I was able to go to different places such as Papa's Uncle house at Kallang Airport, the hort park and I also visited my great-grandmother with my parents.

Since I fell sick after attending school, I had started watching more VCDs. As I can appreciate puppet shows better, Mama decided to buy me a Sesame Street VCD. It was titled Good Night Sesame. Mama prayed it can help me with turning in at night and I really enjoyed watching this disc. I could watch it day and night, a few times a day. Twinkle, Twinkle Little Stars is a song that is sung quite a few times throughout the show. Mama thinks I had never heard this song so many times for the past 22 months or so. You see, Mama seldom sing this song to me and by watching this disc, I have heard it more times the past month than the past 22 months put together.

My current favourite is also a Sesame VCD. It is titled Making Music. It features 4 characters from Sesame Street. There are Baby Elmo, Baby Bird, Baby Cookie Monster and Baby Prairie Dawn. In the show, they are making music in different ways and whenever the disc is being played, I will get my shaker toys from my toy car and shake the shakers according to the timing of the music.

For the past 2 weeks or so, I am slowly losing my fear of having water trickle down my face. I used to be much afraid when water is poured on my head. If Mama pours water over my face, I will quickly stand up from the bath tub and grab her legs.

Ok, that's about all for the moment. Mama will update again when she can recall my development. Thanks for reading and bye for now! :)

An Accident Prone Day

Today was an accident prone day for me. 3 accidents happened.

Accident #1 : I was on Mama's bed and she was trying to dress me up after my mid-day bath. As usual, I did not keep still and sat up. Mama asked me to be careful. The moment she finished her words, I flung my head backwards to lie down and wham!! I hit the back of my head against the side of her bedframe. I cried and later, Mama found a swelling at the back of my head.

Accident #2 : I was toying with Papa's comb in Mama's bedroom, pretending to or trying to comb my hair. Mama went to the study room for a short while and a few seconds later, she heard me cry. I had punctured my skin and there was a hole about the size of a small sesame seed. There was a little blood. Mama thanked God for his protection because my right eye is just 2 -3cm below that hole. It would have been unimaginable if the comb went to my eye instead. Papa said I cannot play with a comb again.

Accident #3 : I climbed up to the coffeetable where Mama was seated while she was feeding me dinner. She decided to move to the sofa so that she can face me and feed me more easily. No sooner had she moved, I leaned to my left and boing! I fell off. Thank God that I didn't break my neck and die instantly because I actually landed on the left side of my head. Of course I cried. Papa later told Mama that he never allow me on the coffeetable. Looks like I won't get to sit on the coffeetable anymore.

I slept at around 9.30pm and that was the end of my accident prone day. From now on, Mama will be more careful with me and this means I will spend more time in the playpen when she is unable to keep an eye on me when she is doing her chores like cooking, making milk for me or filling the bath tub with water. ;p

End of Class Again

Nowadays, I no longer whine when I see Mama after class. In fact, I am very happy to see her. But this morning, I still cried a little when Mama left me with Aunty Ivy, the teacher assistant in my class, to go home. ;p

I Got Into Trouble

Last friday, Mama brought me to the food court at Yew Tee point for lunch. While waiting for Mama's order to be served, I got into trouble. I was toying with a stack of serving tray with Mama standing next to me when I actually brought down a big stack of those trays. Crash!!

I was unharmed but not the aunty who was trying to place an order at the counter. She was in such great pain that she screamed and jumped. I was a little frightened by the loud crashing of the trays and Mama smacked my arms because I had hurt someone. Mama was also really frightened and did not really knew what to do except to apologise profusely.

The aunty was of course, upset with me and she glared at me. Mama offered to bring the aunty to the doctor whose clinic was just next to the foodcourt and pay the medical bills for her but she declined and after resting her toes, she went to her table with her friend who later bought her lunch for her.

Mama felt very bad about this whole incident. When the aunty felt better, she told Mama it's ok, I am just a small child and even carassed my face. But Mama still felt very bad. Mama also prayed for God to heal the aunty. It was said by her friend that her toe bones seemed a little out of place. The aunty refused to see a doctor and said she will go home and apply some medicated ointment on her toes. Mama left her contact number with the aunty in case her condition worsens and she should need further medical attention like x-rays or something.

Hopefully Mama will be more mindful to watch what I play with next time. ;(

Family Reunion Dinner with the Soo Family

After visiting my great grandmother in the morning, we went home and I took a nap after eating a simple lunch of Four Leaves Japanese Steamed Cake and milk. Papa and Mama had some rest before we went to my maternal grandpa's place for reunion dinner with Mama's side of my extended family.

While waiting for the steamboat dinner to be served, Papa and Mama brought me to the ground level of grandma's place for a walk. 2 Caucasian families were having their dinner at a Chinese restaurant nearby and so I had a chance to be with their kids. Papa said maybe this is what it will be like in the future when Uncle Denton and Aunty Cheyanne have their own children and we meet up for gatherings..

There were 2 boys and 2 girls. All were a little older than me. Here is the one who is closest to me in terms of age. This is me trying to take her pink handbag and of course, she didn't let me have it. Haha.

Well, they were not exactly keen to interact with me but I still liked to hang around them for a while.

After the dinner, we took our yearly (going by the lunar calendar) family picture before we had a Loh-Hei session. Cheers!

Visiting My Great Grandmother

On the third day of Chinese New Year, Papa brought us to visit Mama's paternal grandmother. She is now staying in a nursing home and could not really interact with us. But she did open her eyes for a brief moment to take a look at Papa and me when Mama introduced Mama's me and Papa.

Papa also brought me nearer to take a closer look and touch my great grandmother's hair. Mama was afraid I may end up smacking her as I usually do when I touch anyone but I did not. Alas, Mama did not capture that moment on camera. But here is what she got. :)

Hort Park Again

On the first day of Chinese New Year, Papa drove past a bridge near Hort Park and so at Mama's encourgement, we came here on the second day of Chinese New Year after we had our breakfast.
Papa and Mama took turns to wheel me along the bridge. Along the way, they allowed me to come down for a walk. This is me, playing with the umbrella. It looks as if I am doing a military kind of salute with it. haha. :)

On our way back to Hort Park, I fell asleep and so Papa and Mama took the opportunity to rest and took some pictures of themselves.

Then we went home and Papa bathed me before we went to Nai nai house for lunch. :)

Papa's Love

Papa wants me to grow my hair longer and so I had not had a haircut since mid-Dec last year. This is Papa helping to gel my hair before we left home to go to church on the first day of Chinese New Year.

But I messed up my hair soon after and Papa had to do it a second time for me.

This is what my hair looked like at the end of the day when we were about to leave Changi Airport Terminal 3 where we had our dinner. Mama took this picture as she remembered Aunty Cheyanne would like to see a picture of my Chinese New Year outfit.

Sorry, Aunty Cheyanne, Mama did not take a proper picture of me to show my Chinese New Year outfit. Maybe another day, perhaps. :) One where at least I am standing so that you can see the full attire but let me tell you that only my red Polo-shirt is new. I was wearing the Levi jeans Aunty Cvannelle bought me and that pair of jeans had been worn umpteenth times. ;)
