My Love for Mushrooms

Today, Mama made mee sua for my lunch. She added some white mushrooms when she was cooking the broth for the mee sua. She read in a magazine that white mushrooms are supposed to be able to boost one's immunity and more importantly, I love to eat mushrooms.

After eating some mee sua, I told Mama I wanted to "eat mushrooms only"... though she still made me eat the mee sua, it seems like my food battles with Mama are starting... :D

I Am 3 years Old

Dear all, I am already 3 years old!

2 weeks ago, I started saying "thank you" whenever something is passed to me. If my parents pass me my pacifier, I will say thank you. I can say thank you many times a day because many things are passed to me in the course of a day.

I am also continuing in my quest to be independent and for the last 2 weeks, I had been telling Mama "go away" as I want to try some things on my own. For example, when Mama helps me to wash my hands, I will ask her to go away after the tap has been turned on. I want to wash the hands on my own. Sometimes, Mama will let me but if I don't succeed, Mama will help me though not without complaints and many a times, a scolding from Mama.

According to Aunty Esther, Uncle Eugene's wife who is now teaching in a kindergarten, I am now using sentences. Mama has also noted that I am using more words now. She read that at the age of 3, I should be using sentences with 4 to 5 words and I am doing it occasionally as I am still using 3 word sentences mostly. Last week, I surprised Mama when I climbed onto the chair before the computer and said softly to myself, "Be careful, don't fall down".

Teacher Sharon showed my parents my progress report. Though she had already said it may not be accurate as this is only the first term, my parents still took the report somewhat seriously and that was why they disagreed with some of the things she had reported.

From my interaction with Mama, up to the point when the report was given, I could at least count object to 2. If I see 2 birds in a field, I will say, "1, 2. 2 birds" but teacher said I can't count. This morning, we walked past our neighbour's place and I said. "1, 2,3, 4. 4 birds" I had counted the birds correctly. There were 4 cages hung at the walkway and a bird in each cage we saw.

I also got a little confused with my pronouns. The past few days, I had been telling Mama "help you" when I meant to ask her to help me with something. For example, I had yoghurt just now and I wanted Mama to help me with the little bit of yoghurt left in the cup and so I said "Help you". Mama thinks I said "help you" because Mama will always say,"Let Mama help you" before rendering me assistance and hence I learnt to say "help you" when I need her help. But never mind, I will soon straighten that out.

I still like to share food with Mama. When we went Mac Donald's last week, Mama wanted to drink my coke and this is how I held the drink for her when she drank.

Occasionally, I like taking pictures. This picture was taken when we went Swensons' for dessert. Mama actually removed her glasses to prepare for a shot with Papa but this was what she found in her handphone after the evening.

This was probably an accidental shot of my knee at Swenson's.

This was taken when I was in my 4th granduncle's car and he was driving.

Not bad huh?

This month, Mama also discovered a small problem that needed correction. I am not putting my poop into the potty but I move my bowels only when I am in a diaper. After my daily lunch, Mama will give me a shower and put me in a diaper to prepare me for my nap. She discovered it was then that I will do my poop.

Today, I asked to wear a diaper after lunch even though I had not yet showered. She tried asking me to sit on a potty and I refused to do so. Even after putting my diaper on, I still refused to get onto my potty. Mama decided to leave me to do my business in the living room with my diaper on and went to the kitchen to do some wash up. She was quite amused that moments later, I actually went into the kitchen with the potty in my hands to return the potty to where it was supposed to be placed. Yes, such is my strong desire to keep things in an orderly fashion.

This month, I also brought home quite a few pieces of craftwork from school. These are my foot prints and Mama thinks they are quite cute.

After watching a Peppa Pig cartoon titled Eye Test, I actually tried to imitate what I saw. In the show, Peppa Pig's friend wanted to give her an eye test and asked her to close her eyes, She did as told and said she could not see anything. After watching this for a few times, I closed my eyes and started saying,"Can't see anything."

Ok, that's about all Mama has to say at the moment. She will update more when she has more to add. Thanks for reading thus far. :D

On My 3rd Birthday

Hi all, this is me on my 3rd birthday. I am dressed in the clothes my maternal grandma has bought me. Nice fit, right? Mama and I were on our way to help send my maternal grandma home after her dialysis.

After sending her home, my 4th granduncle sent us home and I had a nap. When I woke up from my nap, we went to Nai nai's home. She had made mee sua for me. She also fried bee hoon, made some tasty abacus seeds from a mixture of yam and flour. She baked some chicken drumsticks and made some jelly. Mama was only concerned about eating her dinner quickly and did not take any photos of the yummy food.

Shu shu took pictures and video clips for me and my parents when the birthday song was sung and it will be quite a while before Mama can get her hands on those pictures and clips. Here are what Mama got using her handphone camera. :D

Papa was the one who prepared the birthday cake for the cake cutting.

I chose the design of the cake myself though Mama was the one who decided on the colour of the text, the type of cream around the cake and the blue cream trimmings on top. Nai nai said the cake tasted pretty good!

Nai nai helped me with the cake cutting and I distributed the cake to my parents, Shu Shu and Aunty Dawn. :D

After the cake cutting, we continued to hang around at Nai nai's place for some time before we went home to rest for the day and that was how I spent my third birthday. :D

Dry Mope

Hi all, another piece of evidence that Mama is putting me to child labour again but I soon got distracted...

My Last Day of being a 2 Year Old

Hi all,
This is me on my last day of being a 2 year-old. It was the Thursday of the one week school holiday and Mama decided to bring me for a hair cut before school reopened on Monday. She ran some errands along the way too and we ended up taking a LRT ride just for the fun of it. Needless to say, it's me who requested and Mama who obliged.

We had lunch at a food court in Yew Tee and when we were about to leave, I asked to buy a bowl of jelly sold at the fruit stall and Mama gave in to me. She asked me which colour I wanted for my jelly and I said red. So I got what I asked for. :D

I ate the bowl of jelly on my own and almost finished all of it. Yum...

This is me when we reached home after the haircut. My new hair style is kind of strange looking right? The hairdresser actually cut my fringe so that it looks like a downward sloping curve across my forehead. But Mama asked her to trim it again to give me the newest look Christopher Lee is spotting and this is the end result.

Yes, it's a silly-looking hair style but Mama thinks it accentuates my cute face. What do you think? :D

My First Birthday Present of the Year

I am trying on my first birthday present of the year - a pair of Crocs from Shu Shu and Aunty Dawn! This pair of sandals were given to me last Tuesday evening when I was at Nai Nai's place while my parents went for evening classes.

Mama had long wanted to buy me a pair of Crocs but had not been able to do so. Somehow, God has fulfilled Mama's desire through this birthday present. Praise God!

According to Nai Nai, I had refused to wear this pair of sandals when they were given to me. Mama did not find it surprising as I am pretty fussy about my footwear. Mama asked for time for me to come to accept this pair of shoes. She thought I will probably take a week or so to accept it.

Surprisingly, I started trying them on when we reached home. Yes, the fit is just right and I even wore them to Nai Nai's place for my birthday celebration.

One thing Mama noticed about this pair of Crocs was that I did not attempt nor ask to remove them when I play at playground. This is so unlike of me as I usually ask to remove my footwear when I play at playgrounds.

Whispering

Last week, Mama showed me whispering by saying something very secretly into my ears. This is my own rendition of whispering. Sometimes, Mama will sing a song very softly into my ears by whispering. I like the experience of whispersing.. nice! :D

Gong Xi Fa Cai

Chinese New Year is over but I am still saying my Gong Xi Fa Cai. The picture below is what Gong Xi Fa Cai looks like. I am serious.

Mama has no idea what happened that caused me to believe this packet drink is called Gong Xi Fa Cai. Once, I kept saying Gong Xi Fa Cai, Gong Xi Fa Cai to Mama who could not understand what I was trying to say. When she made out the sound of these 4 words and looked where I was looking, she realised to her amusement that I was trying to tell her I wanted to drink this.

Papa told Mama maybe there was an occasion when he asked me to pass this drink to someone during Chinese New Year and say Gong Xi Fa Cai at the same time which led me to think this drink is called Gong Xi Fa Cai.

Mama tried to teach me the Chinese name of this beverage - 菊花茶 and I could follow her but I soon forgot and reverted to Gong Xi Fa Cai again when I badly wants to drink it. It's really kind of funny to see me repeat Gong Xi Fa Cai, Gong Xi Fa Cai many times until Mama finally relented to give me a drink. Not so funny when one realises that I am really insistent about getting what I want. ;p

Downgraded Mee Sua

Dear all,
The above was my birthday mee sua when I was 2 years old and below is a picture of my birthday mee sua given to me on my 3rd birthday.

How could it be that as my Mama earns more money, she gives me less for my birthday mee sua? Even the hard-boiled eggs had shrunk in size as Mama used quail eggs this year. In fact, the quail eggs has a Best Before date of 19th March which means they were about to "expire".

Sigh. ;p

Fidgets Again!

Hi all, can you spot me in this ball pit?

It has been more than a year since we last went Fidgets on Christmas Eve 2009. As Mama did not have to work on 5th March, Saturday morning, my parents decided to bring me to Fidgets. We were among the first few to arrive and Papa joined us at the playground too.

Mama is a scaredy cat. She was afraid to even go down this slide. Papa had to egg her on.

Me? I love it and even tried to climb up the incline. See me in action!

Trying the suspension bridge again. Mama just loves it that the structures here are so safe to use.

There is a higher slide at the other corner of the playground. Mama certainly did not go down this one. She was climbing up the structure when she saw something "flew" down the slide and that was me. Whee!!

Mama was concerned that I might be too hyped up that it will be difficult for me to leave this place when it's time to go and so she brought me to this Little Fidgets corner where play is less intense.

There was this time period when Mama left me with Papa for her lunch and according to Papa, I fought with a younger toddler over a toy. I actually banged my head against the toddler's head and he cried.

When Mama came back from lunch, Papa and I were at the big structure. This was me trying to go up the incline of the slide. Shortly after the picture was taken, an accident happened.

I was trying to go up the incline of the slide when a bigger boy came down the slide and went past me. I looked kind of dazed when this happened. Mama asked me to go to her but I still seem to be in a daze and the boy tried to help Mama by dragging my leg. It was then that I let out a cry. Mama thought I might had hurt my fingers as that seemed to be what I indicated.

Mama quickly carried me in her arms and took the opportunity to leave Fidgets. Papa paid for my entrance fees and we went to the area where our shoes were kept. It was there that Mama sat me on her lap and asked me to show her where is the pain. Perhaps the boy who slided down brushed past my fingers or perhaps they were kind of sprained but it was when we were in the car before I could curl my fingers again.

Actually, Mama thinks it's not the fault of the boy as it's me who flouted human traffic rules by going up the incline of the slide.

Though Papa and Mama expected that such play can be dangerous, Papa was not too pleased with me being hurt. Looks like it will be quite a while before we can come to Fidgets again. ;p

Bespectacled!

Hi all, I was trying on this new pair of glasses at the optometrist that Mama frequents. Nice look? See me try on the glasses and look at my own reflection.

Perhaps I look better without glasses afterall...

If you are wondering what this is all about, Mama brought me along when she wanted to have her mis-aligned glasses fixed by the optometrist and while waiting to have her glasses done, she took a pair of kiddy glasses for me to try... see the vain pot character in me? ;p

I Washed My Face

Mama usually finishes my daily shower time with a few seconds of pretend rain by allowing water to fall on me from the showerhead in its holder. Cheeky me will usually face the "rain" with my mouth opened and I will catch some "rainwater" in my mouth, holding it in only to spit it out after Mama wraps me with a towel.

Today, I did something different. Instead of opening my mouth to catch the rain water, I actually put my hand in the water with palm facing the ceiling. I then patted my face with my palm. Mama thinks I am trying to wash my face except that I am unable to curl up my palm to catch more water the way adults do. What an interesting thing I did. :D

Bear Bear Light

When Mama reads books on helping me sleep better, she often comes across the idea of having a night light in my room as I may be afraid of the dark but she has often brushed the idea aside as the light from the corridor opposite our block will enter my room through the window and brighten up the room such that it's not pitch dark at night. Even when I always tell her to "open light" when we enter my room for bedtime did not change her mind.

Recently, Mama read about sleep-training me again and she pieced together the idea that perhaps the reason I am always asking to turn on the light is that I may really need a night light afterall.

So one day, after school, she brought me to Lot 1 to buy a small night light. There was only 1 shop that sold night light and there were not many choices. In the end, we settled for this one. It was days after having it that Mama remembered to ask me to name my light. My answer : Bear Bear Light.

From then on, we often turn on the Bear Bear light when it's time for me to go to bed. I will sleep with Bear Bear Light switched on and near to me. Mama will switch it off after I have fallen asleep.

It serves as a good enticement too when my parents want me to go home so that Mama can put me to bed earlier. Mama just need to remind me that Bear Bear Light is waiting for me at home and I will make my way home though she only used it a couple of times and still does not know if this enticement is fail-proof... :)

My School Friends

Mama finally took some pictures of me and my friends from the new school. See this little girl, she's definitely younger than me and she comes to school on the bicycle. Her grandpa is in the background waiting for her and his bicycle is next to him. :D

Here's another one.

Somehow, Mama just did not seem to try and match the names of my friends to their faces this time round. ;p

And this is Teacher Sharon. She told Mama that I am energy-sapping as she has to keep pulling me here and there. Mama took me home last week and reminded me to stay seated and not to walk around or Teacher Sharon will be tired. In reply, I told Mama with my limited vocabulary that I was supposed to "sit table" and "teacher angry". Mama thinks I meant to say I must sit at the table or teacher will be angry. ;p

The Month of February 2011

Last month that passed, I seemed to had developed a new love for feeding the people around me. Here's me feeding Shu Shu.

I also started dabbling with photography. I took this picture of Mama using the camera set in her handphone.

Mama thinks it must have been a very interesting experience for me to view the world through a camera lens. You can see my signature in my pictures in the sense that all of them were taken with an angle of elevation. Here's another one.

And another.

Mama might have observed this in the month of January but Mama started seeing small beads of perspiration on my forehead. This may just be very common but Mama has never really observed my beads of perspiration until recently. Seeing these beads made her feel like I have really grown up and I am much more like a boy now and not a baby anymore. Since when have you seen newborns with beads of perspiration? ;)

Talking about angle of elevation, I am now able to look up to the sky and see the stars God has set in the sky. Once, I even saw the moon! Mama feels excited that I am now able to look up and point out stars. Praise God for another step of growth though this can hardly be considered a development milestone.

I can also say sentences of 4 words though I hardly uses such long sentences and uses my 2 words phrases more often. Mama seldom take note of what I speak now and the one she can remember is "Papa go work cookie" which does not seem to make perfect sense to her.

I also tend to parrot what I hear from TV. Last month, I had been watching lots of Peppa Pig cartoons and I picked up this phrase "Naughty Messy Daddy" from the show. I like to say this as and when it comes to my mind and recently, Mama will say "Naughty Messy Daniel" in reply to what I say. If you know my Papa, he is hardly a messy person and he can't stand mess. I am more likely the messy one.

Ok, that's about all for the month of February.. :D

Gassy Drink!

Eversince Mama discovered I love the yoghurt that comes as a side for Mac Donald's Happy Meals, she had been ordering yoghurt instead of fries when she buys me a Happy Meal. But what happened that caused me to abandon the yoghurt above? The answer is....

A gassy drink! Actually, I did not discover it. It's was Mama's bad idea when she decided she will show me the effervescence effect when salt is added to coca-cola by letting me add some salt to her drink. When I saw her drink, I asked for gassy drink and abandoned the yoghurt I was eating.... Mama did not have an easy time controlling the amount of gassy drink I insisted on drinking while making sure I ate at least half of the cheeseburger she bought for me.....*burp*

I Sing Twinkle...

Finally, Mama has this video clip of me singing.. listen closely.....

Beads

Mama bought me some blue and yellow beads from Daiso and a couple of weeks ago, she started letting me try stringing beads. She thought this is good for my fine motor skills and it's a probably an activity to help me pass time.

I surprised her with the colour sequence I came up with when I strung the beads. Mama is not too sure if it's intentional or it's just a matter of high probability as there were only about 8 beads but I actually chose to string the beads in the sequence above all on my own without Mama's prompting.

We even brought the beads with us to Malacca when we went there end of February. Unfortunately, I spilled the beads over the floor in a Malacca coffeeshop and Mama had not let me touched the beads ever since as she has not washed them. ;p
