Malacca Trip Episode #4

After Nai nai got her shoes, we took a taxi to this place called Jonkers Street. Papa read about it before we came to Malacca. This is Papa and me at the second level of a Chendol place called 三叔公. This place is pretty near the entrance of the street where the taxi uncle dropped us.

The initial plan is to walk on for a while before settling down for some tea break but the weather was so hot that we came into this air-conditioned restaurant to escape from the heat.

After the dessert break, we continued walking along Jonkers Street. Papa bought me this new xylophone as he thinks it sounds pretty nice when struck. Along the way, we saw a man painting using water colours and Mama asked if I would like to paint too when I grow up. I replied her by striking the xylophone. Nah, painting is not my cup of tea, or at least, not yet. Making music is. :)

After walking for an hour or two at the streets, we went back to the hotel in a taxi. On hindsight, Mama thought maybe it's not a good move for me to be walking at Jonkers Street for such a long time as I was wheeled around along the streets with the moving vehicles at the same time.

That evening, I came down with a running nose which became blocked and I could not sleep well at night. Mama did not bring my nasal decongestant and she only gave me my antihistamine which was the only medicine she brought along as she thought I seemed to be fine when we left home and she took it for granted that nothing will happen on such a short trip.

Mama suspected that wheeling me along the streets for such a long duration with all the moving vehicles must have exposed me to a great amount of dust and smoke particles especially I was nearer to the ground in my pram compared to say, if I had been carried by my parents. Before we went Malacca, Dr Winston Ng already commented that I have sensitive airways. This exposure triggered off my sneezing and running nose and my mucous factory started working very hard.

The next morning, my mucous had turned brown or green (Mama can't quite remember) and I had started to cough a little. Even til now, I am still sick and I won't be able to go to school for the next few days.

In addition, I probably became over-stimulated as I refused to sleep after my shower in the hotel. It could be the stimulation of the new sights and sounds coupled with a new and unfamiliar room but I just could not settle down to sleep. At about 5.30pm, Mama decided that I shall not nap anymore but be kept awake so that I can sleep early. True enough, by 8.30pm, I had already fallen asleep in my cot and it was actually pretty easy settling me down that evening.

That was end of Day 1 for me. But not for Papa. After sleeping for a couple of hours in the cot, I fussed a little as there was very limited space for me to turn around. So Mama let me sleep on the Queen-sized bed with her and Papa. Poor Papa was kicked by me in his face numerous times even though he changed his positions. He was so uncomfortable and disturbed that he took a pillow with him and went to sleep on the 2-seater couch, leaving me and Mama to have the entire bed to ourselves.

Actually, I did not sleep well too due to my blocked nose but it's still not too bad as I did catch quite a bit of sleep. I only woke up at around 7am the next morning and it was because I was sleeping with my head propped on Mama's body and Mama thought I could continue to sleep if she just put my head on the mattress while she gets up. If she had not moved, I might have continued to sleep.

Mama spent much thought on how to keep me entertained on the road trip but it did not cross her mind that she should think about the sleeping part as well. She thought requesting for a cot bed will solve the sleep problem, forgetting bed at home is a queen-sized mattress for me. Ha.
